Sangiovese is found throughout central Italy but is most famous as the great red grape of Tuscany. Fine examples include Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and has made great wines in these appellations for centuries. It can make red wines that are light and easy drinking to full bodied wines with great aging potential.
The Sangiovese from Thornton Winery was made with fruit sourced from Huis Vineyard in Temecula Valley. It is a delicious wine that goes with many foods.
Aroma: This lighter ruby-colored wine begins with an immediate cherry and light herb aroma announcing that it is Sangiovese. Floral characters emerge with aeration.
Palate: Lovely red cherries and plums, light-medium bodied with fine tannins showing its drinkability and a lively acidity throughout.
Pairing: Although pairing well with a variety of meats and stews, you can’t go wrong with anything Italian: pizza, pasta, cheese and salami plate.
