Thornton Winery is pleased to introduce this wine for the first time ever! Lovers of Italian red wine will know Montepulciano as the famous red grape of the Abruzzo region in central Italy (Montepulciano d’Abruzzo), and Aglianico as the finest red grape of Campania (Taurasi and Aglianico del Vulture). These two grapes are among Italy’s greatest red varieties, and although coming from two different regions, the areas do overlap, and one can find Montepulciano and Aglianico blended there. Our blend of 52% Montepulciano and 48% Aglianico is a marriage made in heaven-the resulting wine is rich and fruity with firm tannins that will age well for 10 years.

Aroma: Complex fruits such as dark cherry, red and black berries, and red plum. Packed with spice (baking spices, especially cinnamon) with some new leather and earthy notes.
Palate: Full bodied with ample tannins, this wine explodes with red and black fruits (dark cherry, black raspberry, and boysenberry) and has a nice balanced acidity. The finish is long with lingering fruit, tannins, and spice.
Pairing: This full, delicious wine is begging for rich foods. Keeping things Italian, try osso buco or grilled meats, pasta dishes with rich red and meat sauces, pizza with sausage and spicy dried meats, and dry, aged, full-flavored cheeses.
