Pinot Grigio, also called Pinot Gris in some places, is well-adapted to growing conditions found in the Temecula valley. When the grapes are fully ripe they have a dark brown, almost copper color to them. The goal at Thornton Winery is to make Pinot Grigio in a fruit-forward style that strikes a balance between lusciousness and crisp acidity. Sometimes our winemaker opts to ferment some of the wine in neutral (previously-filled) oak barrels that impart added richness and palate weight.
Descriptors: Melon and mineral notes in the aroma…crisp, mouth-pleasing acidity that captures the essence of this varietal.
