Grapes for the Petite Sirah wine were grown on the gently sloping rows of the Thornton Estate’s east block. We elected to drain the free-run wine from the fermentor before it was dry to complete the fermentation in barrels. The Thornton Winery Petite Sirah wine was aged primarily in French oak barrels (20% brand-new in order to preserve its vibrant fruit aromas of pepper spice and berries). The balance was aged in American oak from Pennsylvania and Minnesota.
