Thornton Winery Announces Fall Wine Releases
As the fall harvest comes to a close, winemaker Don Reha has released two exceptional and long-awaited 2005 reds wines. Reha joined Thornton Winery in 2003 and describes his winemaking style this way, “I have been most passionate about Zinfandel, Rhône and Italian varietals, but have not limited myself to just them. My philosophy on producing premium varietal wines is that you have to have distinct varietal expression for each wine. No two varietals should be produced in the same manner or style. Every step of production throughout the winemaking process needs to be tailor made to extract the quality and uniqueness of the specific wine.”
2005 Estate Syrah - $ 59.00 per bottle – Per Don, “This wine is grown on our Estate Vineyard at Thornton, the fruit was hand selected and picked at optimum maturity lightly crushed and fermented. Dusty berry and black cherry aromas, with a touch of white pepper entice the most discerning oenophile to quickly tilt the glass...”.
2005 Old Vine Zinfandel - $25.00 per bottle – Asked why this one is one of his favorites, Don responded, “It is produced here at Thornton from a turn of the century vineyard in Cucamonga Valley some 50 miles north of Temecula. A Zin lovers Zin, this little monster of a wine has aromas of blackberry and briary red fruit, with chocolate, and peppery spice on the palate, finishing off with notes of blueberry, dried plum and smoky oak.”
