California, has captured four gold medals in wine competitions for
2005. At the San Diego International Wine Competition, held at the
Westgate Hotel in downtown San Diego, Thornton Winery’s 1996
Brut Reserve, made in the traditional methode champenoise process,
and Thornton’s 2002 Grenache Rosé were both recipients
of gold medals.
The San Diego International Wine Competition continues its third
decade, and has become the third largest wine competition in the
nation with more than 2,700 entries in 2003.

Society, based in Fort Lauderale Florida, has announced the results
of its Eighteenth Annual International Wine Judging held in the
Hospitality Education Facilities of Grand Rapids Community College
in Michigan. Thornton Winery’s 1996 Brut Reserve Natural and
1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve were both awarded gold medals.
The awards signify the continuing success of Thornton Winery's excellence
in product quality and in winemaking capacity. Thornton Winery’s
President, Steve Thornton, was pleased with the Gold awards, adding,
“Our goal is to produce premium varietal wines that have distinct
varietal expression. To be recognized by our peers for maintaining
this goal, is an honor everyone at Thornton Winery is proud of."

their focus was on sparkling wines, and in 1993, premium varietal
still wines were added.
Thornton Winery boasts more awards and medals for these products
than any other American producer of Méthode Champenoise Sparkling
Wine/Champagne. These European in style sparkling wines, have received
some of the highest of praise and ratings for California Méthode
Champenoise Sparkling Wine/Champagne.
