THORNTON WINERY TAKES TWO “BEST
OF CLASS” AWARDS!
TEMECULA - Thornton Winery of Temecula,
California, has captured two “Best of Class” and three
gold medals in the first annual Temecula Valley Wine Society Competition
in July 2005 at Maurice Car’rie Winery. Thornton Winery’s
Non Vintage Cuvée Rouge, made in the traditional methodé
champenoisé process, was the recipient of the “Best
of Class” and Gold medal under the Sparkling Wine category.
Thornton’s 2002 Côte Red was also the winner of the
“Best of Class” and Gold medal under the Red Wine category.
Thornton Winery’s inaugural release of Gewurztraminer won
a Gold medal under the White Wine category.
The Temecula Valley Wine Society was formed in 1983 and serves three
main purposes: to educate adults, to assist the Temecula Valley
Winegrower’s Association and to be the work force for the
Riverside International Wine Competition.
The awards signify the continuing success of Thornton Winery's excellence
in product quality and in winemaking capacity. Thornton Winery’s
President, Steve Thornton, was pleased with the “Best of Class”
and Gold awards, adding, “Our goal is to produce premium varietal
wines that have distinct varietal expression. To be recognized by
our peers for maintaining this goal, is an honor everyone at Thornton
Winery is proud of."
John M. and Sally B. Thornton founded Thornton Winery, located North
of San Diego in Temecula, California, in 1988. In the beginning,
their focus was on sparkling wines, and in 1993, premium varietal
still wines were added. Thornton Winery boasts more awards and medals
for these products than any other American producer of Méthode
Champenoise Sparkling Wine/Champagne. These European in style sparkling
wines, have received some of the highest of praise and ratings for
California Méthode Champenoise Sparkling Wine/Champagne.
